PDF Redactor, Splitter & Merger. Files never leave your device.
Black out Aadhaar, PAN or bank details, pull pages out of a PDF, or join several PDFs into one. Everything happens inside your browser, so your documents are never uploaded to any server.

Click and drag on the page to draw a box. Tap the red × on a box to remove it. Only pages with boxes are flattened into images; the other pages are copied unchanged.
How your files stay on your device
There is no upload step in this tool. When you choose a PDF, your browser reads it into memory and the code on this page works on it directly. The result is built in memory too and saved to your device through the normal download button.
1. Read locally
The file is opened with your browser's built-in file reader. It is never sent to a server.
2. Processed locally
PDF.js and pdf-lib run on your device. Both libraries are hosted on this site, not on a third-party CDN.
3. Saved locally
The finished PDF is created in memory and downloaded from your own browser. Close the tab and it is gone.
Check it yourself
- Open this page, then turn on airplane mode or disconnect Wi-Fi. The tools still work.
- Or open your browser's developer tools, go to the Network tab, and process a PDF. You will see no request that carries your file.
What this page does load: Google Analytics and ads, as on every Unwind page. They count visits and show ads. They have no access to the files you open here.
How to use each tool
| Tool | Steps | Good for |
|---|---|---|
| Split & Extract | Drop a PDF, tick pages or type a range like 1-3, 5, then extract them as one PDF, or download each page as a ZIP. | Sending one page of a statement, separating a scanned bundle. |
| Merge | Drop two or more PDFs, set the order with the arrows, then merge. | Combining ID proof, address proof and forms into one upload. |
| Redact | Drop a PDF, draw black boxes on each page, then burn in and download. | Hiding Aadhaar, PAN, account numbers or phone numbers before sharing. |
Why this redaction is permanent
Many PDF editors draw a black rectangle on top of the page. The text underneath is still in the file, and anyone can select, copy or remove it. That has leaked sensitive data in the past.
Here, each page you mark is drawn to an image at about twice its normal resolution. The black boxes are painted into the pixels, and that image becomes the new page. The original text, and any text hidden under the boxes, is not in the new file.
- Marked pages become pictures. You can no longer select or search their text, and the file gets bigger.
- Unmarked pages are copied as they are. They keep their text. If a page has sensitive data, mark it.
- Always check the result. Open the downloaded PDF and try to select text under a box before you share it.
Common uses in India
- Hide Aadhaar and PAN before sharing. Banks, landlords and employers often ask for a copy. Black out the digits you do not need to show, such as the first eight digits of Aadhaar, and keep the rest.
- Share part of a bank statement. Split out only the pages a lender or visa office needs, instead of the full statement.
- Combine documents for one upload. Many portals accept a single PDF. Merge your ID proof, address proof and income proof in the order the form asks.
- Send one page of a long document. Pull out an invoice, a form or a signed page from a scanned bundle.
A copy of an ID with partly hidden digits is safer to share than the full document. Where a form needs the full number, share it only with the organisation that asked for it.
PDF tool FAQs
Are my PDF files uploaded anywhere?
No. Your PDF is read into your browser's memory and processed there by code that is hosted on this site. The file is never sent to a server. You can confirm this by switching off your internet after the page loads and using the tools offline.
Does the page make any network requests at all?
The page itself loads Google Analytics and ads, like the rest of Unwind. These never receive your files. The PDF libraries are hosted on this site, so no third-party service sees your documents.
Is the redaction permanent?
Yes, for the pages you mark. Each redacted page is converted to a flat image with the black boxes painted into the pixels, then rebuilt as a PDF page. The original text underneath is not in the file. Pages without redactions are copied as they are.
Why is a redacted PDF larger and not searchable?
A redacted page becomes a picture, so its text can no longer be selected, searched or copied. That is what makes the redaction safe. The picture is also larger than the original text-based page.
Can I redact Aadhaar or PAN numbers before sharing a PDF?
Yes. Upload the PDF in the Redact tab, draw black boxes over the numbers and download the sanitized file. Check the result in a PDF viewer before you share it.
Can I open password-protected PDFs?
Not yet. Remove the password in your PDF viewer first, then load the file here.
How do I split a bank statement PDF and share only some pages?
Open the Split and Extract tab, drop the statement, tick the pages you want or type a range such as 1-3, then click Extract selected. Only those pages are saved in the new PDF.
Can I merge documents into one PDF for a loan, visa or job application?
Yes. Drop all your PDFs in the Merge tab, set the order with the arrows and download one combined file. Because nothing is uploaded, ID and income documents stay on your device.
Is there a file size limit?
There is no upload limit because nothing is uploaded. The limit is your device's memory. Very large or image-heavy PDFs may be slow on phones.
This tool is provided as is. Redaction is only as good as the boxes you draw, so review every page before sharing. Back to Unwind home.
